MADISON, Wis. -

Every year, the local March of Dimes Chef’s Auction event celebrates the cause in November and raises money while paying tribute to the Madison area’s culinary offerings.

On Thursday 30 local eateries will participate in the “Signature Chef’s Auction,” an event that offers culinary tastings, a silent auction and more.

One of the participating chefs, Dave Heide of Liliana’s in Fitchburg, said he wanted to work for a cause that reflects what he cares about most in both his personal and professional lives.

“I think a lot of people don't realize the March of Dimes isn't just for babies who are premature,” Heide said. “It's also for healthy babies so the vaccines that you get and the screenings are … made possible by the March of Dimes.”

Heide opened his New Orleans-style restaurant, located at Triverton Pike Drive, on his daughter’s first birthday and celebrated the eatery’s fifth anniversary Nov. 1.

He and Liliana will be making Cajun mussels and cornbread for Thursday’s tasting, which starts at 6 p.m.

The March of Dimes’ annual Signature Chefs event will take place in the Monona Terrace Grand Ballroom. For ticket information or to donate, visit the March of Dimes online.
