Ardell Mae Jewell of Baraboo and formerly of Shawano, passed away at her home on Saturday, February 23, 2013. She was 85.

She is survived by her husband Harvey, daughter Connie (Bill) Burton of Baraboo, her son David (Diane) Jewell of Germantown, WI; three sisters, Waverly (Walt) Peterson, Joanne (Harvey) Huyser, Sandra (Jim) Libke. She is also survived by one brother, Edward (Beverly) Wendorf; two granddaughters, Trina (Jonathan) Barnett and Emily (Michael) Fazio, two grandsons, Tyler and Steven Jewell; two great grandchildren, Joshua and Ainsley Barnett, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Clara (Hardt) Wendorf.

Ardell was born in Wilton, WI on March 13, 1927. In August of 1949 she was united in marriage to Harvey D. Jewell. The Jewell family moved to Shawano in June of 1961 and joined Zion Lutheran Church that fall. Ardell loved serving her church and did so in many ways, teaching Sunday School, vacation bible school,Director of the Junior Choir for 15 years, member of the Senior Choir for 10 years, a two year term as president of the Women of the Church, and a member of the Joy Circle for 33 years, taking her turn as Bible study leader and hostess, and was Altar Guild Directress since 1995.

Ardell was a member of the Shawano Women's Club for 10 Years, serving a one year term as president. She enjoyed a long relationship with the American Cancer Society as a volunteer, beginning with door to door solicitation, being a member on the County Cancer Board for 20 years, serving as Secretary for five years and as President for 10 years (1973-1983).

Ardell's hobbies were sewing, playing bridge, bowling, golfing, reading, and she had a special passion for knitting. In her lifetime she knit countless afghans, sweaters, baby caps, mittens, etc., for friends and relatives. In 2012, she and her husband moved to Baraboo and joined St. John's Lutheran Church in Prairie du Sac.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 11:00am at St. John's Lutheran Church, 100 Oak St., Prairie du Sac with Pastor Fred Rilling officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church. Interment in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Sparta will be held at a later date.
