Anthony "Tony" Jarona Sr.

MADISON-Anthony “Tony” Jarona Sr., age 87, of Madison, passed away on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at his home. He was born on Oct. 20, 1925, in Madison, the son of Tomas and Rosario (Quartuccio) Gerome. Tony married Hilda Viney on March 29, 1948, in Rockford, Ill. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. Tony enjoyed opera, playing poker and euchre. He was active in both St. Dennis Catholic Church and St. Patrick’s Church; coaching youth football and singing tenor in the St. Dennis Choir. Tony loved spaghetti, family picnics, traveling, and family trips. He was also a professional wrestler, and was named the Italian Strongman in the 50’s.

Tony is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hilda; four children, Anthony (Priscilla) Jarona Jr., Theresa (Jerry) Gohre, Patricia Brinkman-Jarona, and Thomas (Sue) Jarona; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; nephew, Thomas (Ann) Stassi; and is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Josephine and Providence; brother, Joseph; and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Avenue, Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.
