Anne Farness

MADISON-Anne Farness, age 94, passed away on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013. She was born on May 27, 1918, in Muscoda, the daughter of Albert and Anna Mary (Sikhart) Schaefer. Anne was united in marriage to Chalmer Hatleberg in 1940. He was killed in an automobile accident that same year. On Feb. 21, 1942, Anne married and shared 56 years with Selmer Farness. Anne was a loving mother, grandmother, and a devout Catholic. She enjoyed bowling, baseball, bingo, and singing. Anne attended Brewers games and was a loyal Badgers fan. Over the years, Anne worked at the Phone Company, Madison Bowling Association and was secretary to Dr. James Wilke at Morningside Sanitorium. Anne always had a positive outlook and lived a happy life.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Grobe and Carole (George) Mundschau; one grandson; seven granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Bill Schaefer; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Schaefer of New Lisbon; and several nieces and nephews. Anne was preceded in death by her husbands, Chalmer and Selmer; her parents; her step-mother; son in law, Lavern Grobe; and granddaughter, Rebecca.

Funeral services will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, with the Rev. Bart Timmerman presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Father Bart Timmerman and Mary Haukereid for the dedicated home visits and support the last nine years.
