Ann V. Elert

MADISON-Ann V. Elert, age 78, of Monona/Madison, passed away on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on Oct. 26, 1934, in Spring Green, the daughter of Michael and Mary (Pletzer) Gruber. She married James B. Elert on June 7, 1958, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Madison. Ann worked for many years at Manchester’s Department Store until its closing and later retired from Valley Bank. Ann was a long time member of St. Dennis Catholic Church, sharing her time and talents until her health no longer permitted. Ann loved family vacations to the North Woods and Friday night dinners at Toby’s Supper Club with family and friends. Ann loved her role of being Mom and Grandma and she was looking forward to the birth of her first great grandchild in April. Ann’s home was a place where friends, family and neighbors gathered no matter the time or day. Her door and heart were always open.

Ann is survived by, and the loving Mother of Pamela (Wesley) Odegaard of Madison, Kevin (Karen) Elert of Town of Vermont, James Elert of Spring Green, and Mary Jo (Jim Jones) Elert of Madison; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Jake, Jolynn, Anne, Alex, Andrew, and Natalie; very special brother in-law and sister-in-law, Kay and Jerome Elert; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James in September 2011; 5 Sisters, Irene Mueller, Mary Margaret Mueller, Elizabeth Brummer, Rosemary Birkholz, Grace Scallon, and 3 brothers, Ed Gruber, Mike Gruber, and Elmer Gruber.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, with Agrace Chaplain and family member Steve Zwetler presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare or a charity of donor’s choice.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Agrace Hospice Care and especially her home care team of Mayte, Leah and long time friend Bill Ayers.
