DODGEVILLE, Wis. -

Crews continue to clean up Governor Dodge State Park from severe weather that hit the area in June, and some trails have been closed to facilitate the clean-up effort, according to a release.

Five hiking, biking and horse trails in the southern area of the park have been closed, officials said. They are expected to be closed until Sept. 12.

The trails include 4.5 miles of the Pine Cliff hiking trail, 1.25 miles of the Lake View hiking trail, 3.3 miles of the Mill Creek off-road bike trail, 1 mile of the Military Ridge access hiking and biking trail and 10 miles of the Outer Horse Trail Loop from the intersection of Old Orchard Pass to the intersection of Goldmine Trail.

“Our crews initially focused their efforts on clearing debris from the heavy use day-use areas -- campgrounds and roads -- in order to keep those areas open for the July 4 weekend,” DRN Regional Park Supervisor Paul Zajackowski said in the release. “Visitor safety is always our top priority and as crews pushed more deeply into the park we found additional damage making these trails unsafe and impassible for hiking, biking or horseback riding.”

Crews will reopen trails as soon as they are done with clean-up, Zajackowski said.

Up-to-date trail information will be available at the park office for visitors.
