MADISON, Wis. -

Police said four people stole a sign posted outside above a University of Wisconsin athletic office last week.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department said at 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 19, four individuals stole a large sign that says "FOOTBALL OFFICES." Construction crews had taken the sign down from it's post above an outdoor doorway to do some work, and the sign was leaning against a concrete wall inside Camp Randall.

Police said it took all four people -- two men and two women -- to carry the 12-foot by 2-foot sign.

A surveillance camera nearby captured video of the people taking the sign, police said. Police shared two images Wednesday showing people carrying the sign.

Police said investigators believe the theft was a prank, but the UW Athletics Department would like the sign, worth about $500, back.

Police asked anyone with information about the sign theft to call UWPD at 608-264-2677.
