MADISON, Wis. -

Two police officers were injured in a disturbance at the South Transfer Point Tuesday morning, according to a release.

A Madison police officer suffered a broken ankle while struggling with another officer to take a combative man off a Madison Metro Bus around 10:30 a.m., officials said.

Witnesses told police the 31-year-old had gotten into a fight with another man at the South Transfer Point before getting onto a bus, according to the release. The 31-year-old suffered injuries to his face.

Officers were concerned for the man’s welfare so they tried to get him off the bus to get him treated for his injuries and to talk with him about his behavior, officials said. The man refused to stand up and started the fight with officers.

The officers used a Taser and pepper spray on the man, but it took several officers to eventually remove him from the bus, according to the release. He was taken to a hospital for observation and evaluation.

The second officer that was injured was with the State Capitol Police Department, officials said. He suffered knew and elbow injuries. The man the 31-year-old initially fought with did not pursue a complaint.
