RACINE, Wis. -

Two men have been sentenced in the fatal shooting of a Racine musician last year.

Twenty-two-year-old Jeremiah "Jay" Brook was shot once through the heart during a botched robbery attempt in July 2012.

Kiori Billups, 22, was sentenced Friday to 22 years in prison. Prosecutors contend that Billups lured Brook to a parking lot under the guise of buying marijuana from Brook, but that his cousin planned to rob Brook instead.

The Journal Times (http://bit.ly/1b0L1bj ) reports the judge also sentenced Billups to 13 years on extended supervision.

Billups' cousin, 21-year-old Latriell Thurman, was sentenced at a separate hearing to 37 years in prison plus 13 years on extended supervision.

Brook's father, Robert Brook, disputes that his son was dealing marijuana.

Defense attorneys for the cousins plan to appeal their sentences.
