What is your favorite part about living in Madison?
What's not to love about this incredible city?! I'm a tad bias, because I grew up in this area - but there's jus so much to do, and so many unique places in Madison. My all time favorite part of Madison, however, is on campus on a Badger Football Saturday. The energy is just incredible!
What is the biggest news story that you've covered?
I'll never forget the 205 Stoughton tornado - I was one of the first reporters on the ground after the storm rolled through. The destruction was indescribable. I think I was out in Stoughton every day for more than a week doing follow-up stories on the damage.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I've recently taken up running, so I do that whenever I get a chance. Otherwise, I love spending as much time as possible with my family and friends. I'm blessed to have an amazing core group of friends in my life - and we've been know to take epic adventures to the Dells, or even a few times down to Florida. My friends are very important to me - and we have a lot of fun!
What is your family life like? Significant other, married, kids?
Single, no kids.
What is your favorite kind of ice cream?
What is the funniest thing that's ever happened to you?
My life is a comedy - so there are many to choose from. I once got a mechanical pencil eraser stuck in my left ear. When friends tried to help remove it with a tweezers, they only pushed it in further. That was a fun trip to the ER. Another funny moment happened years ago when I was anchoring one night...and while trying to say "twenty-second" - it came out "secondy-second." I tried to correct myself three or four times...but I just couldn't say it! Finally, I got it out correctly on the fifth try. I know I write and speak for a living, but man I have trouble with the English language sometimes!
What is your favorite place to vacation?
My family takes an annual vacation to Minocqua, Wis. every year, so it's definitely a favorite destination. Otherwise - any place with sun and a beach, and I'm a happy guy.
What is your favorite sport to play or watch?
I'm a huge UW Badger Football fan - you'll see me at most of the home games! I had the honor of covering the Badgers for WISC-TV at their 2012 Rose Bowl appearance - tons of hours and hard work, but it was an experience of a lifetime!
If you could possess one superhuman power, what would it be?
I've always wanted to fly - how cool would it be avoid the Beltline and Verona Road, and fly past?!
What are you really bad at that you'd love to be great at?
Golf. I'm terrible.
What is your most memorable travel experience?
I used to have family that lived in London - by family went there for a week to visit them, and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Bonus: they knew the tips and tricks for all the tourist sites, so we saw London in record time! At the end of our trip, we took a dinner cruise up and down the Thames - simply amazing.
What is the worst job you have ever had?
I had a job for about six months with a national retailer, taking calls from people with broken appliances, TV's, etc. Worst job ever - people are angry when their washing machine is broken!
What is your favorite tradition around the holidays?
Christmas is by far my favorite holiday - and we have a fun tradition in my family of getting up on Christmas morning, grabbing a cup of hot chocolate, and all sitting together to open presents, laugh, have a great breakfast -- and of course, "A Christmas Story" is on TV the while time. It's a great tradition that I hope never ends...fun family time!
What is your favorite song of all time?
Livin' on a Prayer – Bon Jovi. I'm a Bon Jovi freak.
What is your favorite movie of all time?
Back to the Future trilogy - best ever!
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
I read this quote years ago, and it has stuck with me ever since: "Never give up on what you really want to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful than one with just the facts." - H. Jackson Brown Jr.
If you could relive any moment...what would that be?
My trip to the 2012 Rose Bowl - it was a week of very hard work, but it was an amazing time. I also worked with an incredible group of people, and I'm very proud of all we accomplished.
Where were you when September 11, 2001 occurred?
Senior in college at UW-Whitewater - I watched in disbelief as everything unfolded on TV. Most of my classes were canceled, so I spent the day glued to the TV watching news coverage.
