What is your favorite part about living in Madison?

The diversity in all respects. And in my experience, the people are the most open, accepting and respectful I have ever encountered.

What is the biggest news story that you've covered?

Pope John Paul II visit to St. Louis, MO in 1999.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Depends on the day and which way the wind blows. Sometimes get in a nap, visit friends, spend time with family, or go someplace alone and just "be".

What is your family life like? Significant other, married, kids?

Married, two kids and a cat.

What is your favorite kind of ice cream?

Coffee heath bar crunch. Closely followed by cookies and cream if the cookies are in big chunks.

What is your favorite place to vacation?

Fiji. I've never been there. But if i did go, it would be my favorite.

Who is your hero and why?

My son, Gio. He can and has endured just about everything. He is a living example of strength and love.

What was your favorite band when you were in high school?

Duran Duran.

What is your favorite sport to play or watch?

Baseball.

If you could possess one superhuman power, what would it be?

Toss up between being super fast like "dash" from the movie 'The Incredibles', and being invisible with force field capabilities like "violet" also from 'The Incredibles.' Yes, I know children's movies very, very well.

What are you really bad at that you'd love to be great at?

Singing and camping. And not at the same time.

What is your most memorable travel experience?

My trip to Australia for my cousin's wedding.

Who would you most like to interview alive or dead, and why?

Ellen Degeneres. She's so inspiring, real, and not afraid to show and share her feelings. That's refreshing!

What is your favorite movie of all time?

Dirty Dancing.

What is your favorite book of all time?

Toss up between 'I Love You Forever' and 'Monsters Eat Whiny Children'. (depends on the day & my kids)

If you could relive any moment...what would that be?

The grand opening weekend of Gio's Garden. We served our first family on one day and opened the home for the public to see the next. It was exciting to see two years of hard work and dedication become a reality!

Where were you when September 11, 2001 occurred?

I was interviewing Olympic champion figure skater Peggy Fleming in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Needless to say, that interview was cut short.

  • PHOTOS: Madison store helps collect hundreds of Teddy bears for police

MADISON, Wis.--A west Madison store is part of an effort to collect hundreds of stuffed animals to donate to six police departments in Southern Wisconsin.

Todd Merryfield, owner of The Learning Shop at 714 S. Gammon Road, said the store is collecting the bears for officers who use them to help comfort children with whom police come in contact.

"This is a great way to support what (police) do," Merryfield said. "Those are the kids that need something like this to reassure them, calm them down, and let them know that things are all right."

Nearly 500 plush animals were donated Tuesday, a Learning Shop spokeswoman said. The Madison store's effort is part of a larger initiative through the Bears for Humanity organization.
