DeForest - Virginia “Ginny” M. Olson, age 84, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Pine View Living of Windsor.

She was born on August 28, 1929 to Herman and Mabel Bischoff. She graduated from DeForest High School, and went on to work for Research Products in Madison until she retired in 1985. Ginny married the love of her life, Bennie, on February 19, 1949 and together they raised three children. She was an avid bowler for many years at Rude’s Lanes. She loved baseball, particularly the Cubs, as well as the sports that her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated in.

Ginny also enjoyed summer vacations with her family, fishing in Chetek. After retiring she enjoyed traveling with her husband, working in her flower garden, and volunteering her time at the DeForest Senior Center. She loved lutefisk and lefse dinners, and all the trimmings. Ginny was a very caring person, full of energy, who would do whatever she could for her family.

She is survived by her husband, Bennie Olson; her children Holly (LaVerne) Stark, Bennie (Jill) Olson Jr., and Scott (Denise) Olson; seven grandchildren, Nicole, Tania, Brennan, Shaina, Allison, Erin and Ashley; five great-grandchildren; two sisters Beverly (Tom) Statz, and Sharon (Bob) Pavey; sister-in-law Frances Patton, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Pine View Living, Agrace HospiceCare, and her physician, Paul Schmidt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the DeForest Area Community & Senior Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 at ST. OLAF CATHOLIC CHURCH, 623 Jefferson Street, in DeForest at 12:00 noon with Fr. Robert Butz presiding. Visitation will be held at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
