Virginia A. Laird, 87, of Platteville, died on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Pastor Mike Majeski will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Online condolences can be made at www.melbyfh.com

Virginia was born on January 15, 1926 in Tomah, Wisconsin the daughter of Richard and Charlotte (Bryer) Attewell. She was united in marriage to Jesse Allen Laird in 1969 and he preceded her in death in 1975. Virginia graduated from Platteville High School and attended nursing school in LaCrosse. She owned and operated Quiet Dale Nursing Home on Chestnut St., Platteville. Later she owned and operated Virginia’s Place, Platteville for many years. Virginia provided foster care for many people over the years. She was a member of New Hope Assembly of God, Platteville and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling and playing cards, especially Euchre.

She is survived by her sister, Sophronia (Earl) Smith of Bettendorf, Iowa; many nieces, special friend, Verla Engelke of Platteville. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Wanitta Weber and Leona Spease.
