Richard L. "Deacon" Davis

Richard L. “Deacon” Davis, 75, of Platteville died on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Orchard Manor, Lancaster.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Pastor Bill Wineke will officiate. Burial will be at Lima Union Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Friends may call from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or after 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Richard Davis Memorial Fund.

Richard was born on March 13, 1938 in Platteville, Wisconsin, the son of Robert and Edith (Stead) Davis. He served in the United States Navy. He was married to Pat Cunzenheim and later to Nola Wieland. He worked at John Deere Dubuque Works for 30 years retiring in 1990. He enjoyed cars, antiquing, guns and military artifacts. Richard was a great story teller.

He is survived by his children, Dan, Kim, Kelly and Nancy and their families; sisters, Peggy, Alyce and Mary Lou; brothers, Jack (Janet) and Bill. He was preceded in death by parents, and son, David.

The family would like to thank Dr. Eric Stader and the entire staff at Orchard Manor for all of their care given to Richard these past years.
