Genevieve A. "Gen" Hale

Genevieve “Gen” A. Hale, 89, of Platteville died on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Southwest Health Center Hospital.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville. Rev. Jeff Pedersen will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a VFW Auxiliary service at 4:00 p.m.; friends may also call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Genevieve A. Hale Memorial Fund.

Gen was born on May 27, 1924 in Platteville the daughter of Henry C. and Ella Hermine (Cordts) Kopp. She graduated from Platteville High School in 1942. She was united in marriage to John W. Hale on March 19, 1943 in Platteville. He preceded her in death on February 25, 1981. Gen worked for Northern Propane Gas. She later worked at UW-Platteville from 1966 - 1987 in the personal – payroll department. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville. She was very active in the community where she was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, where she was the first charter member and also president, she also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and Southwest Health Center Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid sports fan following the Brewers, Packers, Badgers football and basketball and UW-Platteville Pioneers in football and basketball.

Gen is survived by her son, Robert (Barbara) Hale of Platteville; sisters and brother-in-law, Titine Kopp of Ducktown, TN; Margaret Kopp of Madison; Ardith (Hale) Condry of Anamosa, IA; Stan (Charlotte) Hale of Edgerton, WI; special friend, Ted Wilkison; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death also by her parents, four brothers, Guerdon, Norman, Raymond, and Donald Kopp.

The family would like to THANK Gray’s Nursing Home, Dr. Carr, Dr. Klann, Nancy Swailes and the staffs of Dean Clinic and Southwest Health Center for all of the care given to Gen.
