Emma Minter Bethke

MADISON – Emma “Em” Minter Bethke, age 95, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 1, 2013.

Em was born on August 26, 1918 in Highland, WI to Peter and Anna Minter. After graduating Highland High School at the age of 16, she moved to Madison. Em was employed by the state of Wisconsin in the Bureau of Vital Statistics. She married Max Bethke in Highland, WI on March 9, 1944. Em and Max started Ideal Sales and Manufacturing Company in 1949, and worked together until their retirement in 1980. They enjoyed boating and traveling together. Em also enjoyed bowling, card playing, bingo, socializing, entertaining, and gambling at DeJope. She was an avid sports fan and loved the Packers and Badgers. Em was a long time member of St. Peter’s parish. She was the heart of our Christmas celebrations and enjoyed all family gatherings.

Em is survived by her children, Susan (Bob) Scheuerell of Phoenix, AZ, Deb (Mike) Grambsch, and Steve “Charlie” Bethke; grandchildren, Jessica Grambsch and Amanda (Nick) Hermann; step-grandchildren, Chad (Christie) Scheuerell and Jenifer (Matt) Barnum; great-grandchildren, Alexys and Paige Scheuerell, and Emma and Alyssa Barnum; sister, Marge Millette. Preceded in death by Max, her husband of 63 years; siblings, Marie, Alice, Lucille, and Bob.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 North Sherman Avenue, Madison, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013, with Father Roger Nilles presiding. Visitation will be held at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 North Sherman Avenue, Madison, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2013 and again at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass on Friday. Entombment at Roselawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson’s Disease research would be appreciated.

Em was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be dearly missed by all of us.
