Betty Jane West, age 79, of Waunakee, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2013.

Betty was born in Mauston, WI on December 23, 1933 to Fred and Edna (Pearsall) Gamerdinger of Elroy. Betty graduated from Elroy High School in 1951. After graduation, she moved to Madison for employment. She worked for the State of Wisconsin, General Sales and Supply, and spent 35 years of her career at Haen Real Estate working for three generations -Anthony, Anthony, Jr. (Tony), and Jeff Haen. She was the smiling face who greeted visitors, answered the telephone and handled all the paperwork for the business. She started work using a manual typewriter, moved on to electric, and was grudgingly using a computer by the end of her career with the help of Susan Haen.

Betty enjoyed reading, traveling, special time with friends, and playing bridge. She was an active member of Eastside Lutheran serving as a leader of the Lutheran Girl Pioneers, and member of the Women’s Guild, and Card Club. On weekends, Betty would be cheering for the Badgers and Packers. She especially enjoyed her role as “Gran”.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Sheryl L. (Tom) Michaels Brooke of Waunakee, son, Michael J. (Debbie) West of DeForest, granddaughter, Michelle L. (Jeremy) Ward of Austin, TX, grandson, Matthew A. Brooke of Madison, granddaughter, Rayne (Ward) Nimz of Stevens Point, and great-grandchildren, Aria L. Nimz and Julian T. Ward, sister, Jeannette (Phillip) Singletary of Watertown, nephews, Scott (Judy) Singletary of Sun Prairie, Paul Singletary of Watertown, Chuck Schweiger of West Bend, David (Terry) Madden of Elroy, nieces, Laurel (Singletary) (Dan) Finger of Clyman, Lisa (Singletary) (Tim) Claas of Watertown, Peggy (Madden) (Jerry) Pityer of Elroy, Nora (Madden) (Kevin) O’Brian of Paonia, CO, Lori (McReynolds) (Bob) Kannenberg of New Lisbon, and sister-in-laws, Frances (Joanne) (West) Madden of Mauston, Dorothy (West) McReynolds of Elroy, a special cousin, Randy (Julie) Leonard, many great nieces, nephews and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Edna (Pearsall) Gamerdinger, aunts Eva (Pearsall) (Nick) Leonard and Ethel (Pearsall) (Joe) Dalkner, sister-in-law, Karen (West) Schweiger and niece, Meryl Schweiger, and special friends, Earl Steinmetz and Fred Buege.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 12 noon at Eastside Lutheran Church, 2310 Independence Lane, Madison, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until services begin. Burial will be on Tuesday, October 29 at Fowler Prairie Cemetery in Elroy at 11 a.m.

Memorials may be made to Eastside Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
