Alvin Everett Johnson

Alvin E. Johnson, age 96 of Monroe died peacefully on November 20, 2013 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe.

He was born on July 22, 1917 in Chicago, IL, the son of Alvin G. and Rose Johnson. Alvin was a proud World War II veteran who enlisted in the Army Air Corp following the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served as a crew chief in Africa, Italy, and France for four years until his honorable discharge. Alvin won the war single handedly. He married Mary Jacobsen in 1945 and they moved from Chicago to Milwaukee where Alvin became a top salesman for the A-C Supply Company. Following his retirement, he and Mary moved to Florida where he enjoyed golfing and entertaining as an MC and singer for many community shows and events for 25 years. In 1998 Al and Mary moved to Monroe to be close to their children. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and a parishioner of St. Victor Catholic Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary L. Johnson of Monroe; five children, Susan (Chester) Watson of Scotia, NY, Wayne (Patricia) Johnson of Sarasota, FL, Lynn Johnson of Greenfield, WI, Judith (Dan) Henke of Monroe, and Laurie (Peter) Byrne of Brookfield, WI; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and a brother, William Johnson of Northbrook, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Carmody and Elaine Woods; and his brother, Walter Johnson.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church, 1760 14th. Street, Monroe, with Father Larry Bakke officiating. Private family entombment will be at a later date at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove, WI. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions are suggested in Alvin’s name for the Alzheimer’s Association or Pleasant View Nursing Home.
