The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has reported that according to a study, “tummy tuck” procedures can lead to lasting weight loss for patients.

Researchers think long-term weight loss might be related to an increased feeling of being full, according to the ASPS.

The study evaluated 20 women after undergoing abdominoplasty – or a “tummy tuck.” After one year, 14 of the women had lost weight. The other six women gained back the weight they originally lost after their procedure.

According to the ASPS, weight loss was more common for women whose body mass index was more than 24.5 before their procedure, and for women who had more tissue removed during the procedure.
