Madison-Genevieve D. Derer, age 91, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Oakcreek Assisted Living in Waunakee. She was born on July 26, 1921 in Dodgeville, to Fred and Mary (Dalles) Dochnahl. Genny grew up on the family farm, attended Five Points Rural School and graduated from high school in Dodgeville. On July 21, 1973, Genevieve married Edward "Ed" Derer at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Madison, where she was a current member. Genny and Ed lived their married lives in Madison. Genevieve waitressed for many well-known establishments in Wisconsin, taking very good care of her patrons, until her retirement. Genny enjoyed the scenic drives down to Dodgeville, where she enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Her favorite past-times were grocery shopping and picking out ingredients for her baking. She loved to bake and would share all her baked goodies; cookies, cakes, pies and breads with her family, friends and neighbors. She cherished spending time with her many special friends and family. She liked to joke around and would always have a "come back" for everything. She was a feisty lady, who enjoyed life and never complained.

Genny is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jean (Frank) Hlavac, of McFarland; sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Betty) Dochnahl; nephews, Dennis (Judith) Dochnahl, Don (Dee) Dochnahl, Dean (Julie) Dochnahl all of Dodgeville and niece, Deb (Bill) Endres of Waunakee; and many other relatives and friends. Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband Edward on November 8, 1998, her parents, and brother Urban Dochnahl.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Avenue on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 11:30 a.m., with Msgr. Charles Schluter officiating. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial services will be held at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church Cemetery in Dodgeville at 3:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank the administration, nurses and staff members at Oakcreek Assisted Living, the Agrace Hospice doctors and nurses, as well as church members and neighbors for their loving, compassionate care of Genevieve.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church or Agrace HospiceCare. Genny lived a simple life always caring for family and friends. We are so glad God gave us this wonderful woman to be in our lives...We will miss her dearly. Rest in peace.
